Cagliari Airport and Assaeroporti, the Italian Airport Association, are pleased to support the national campaign launched by AISM in order to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis. The Italian Association for Multiple Sclerosis will be engaged in a major fundraising event named ‘Gardenia 2014’ taking place in 3.000 Italian cities on 8th and 9th March. Multiple sclerosis affects women twice as often as men: raising money for MS research on Women’s Day means helping women and their families to fight back the disease in a more effective way. A special flight to Guadeloupe is due to take off from Cagliari Airport on Sunday 18th. The direct flight connection will be operated by Alitalia on behalf of Costa Cruises with an Airbus 330-200 (two classes for a total of 269 seats). For the first time, ca. 230 Sardinian passengers will be able to reach the Caribbean without connecting to other flights. With another 40 travellers in transit from Milan Malpensa, the flight will be fully booked. In 2013 ad-hoc charter services requested by Costa Cruises from Cagliari included routes such as Dubai, Heraklion and Sharm-el-Sheikh; in 2014 two flights to Dubai in the UAE are scheduled in February and March.
Cagliari Airport has witnessed increasing passenger traffic throughout 2013, with nearly 3.6 million travellers passing through the airport. International destinations were proven the strongest markets in terms of percentage passenger growth with a year-to-date increase of 15.68%. This was largely driven by the new scheduled services to 11 major European cities that brought the total number of passengers handled on non-domestic routes to 799,126.
